Thrive Student Congress discusses the Trust's Pop-Up Parliament Findings

Updated: Feb 28

This afternoon, the Thrive Student Congress (TSC) met to discuss the findings from the Pop-Up Parliaments which were held in our schools in the Autumn Term. The themes discussed in the Pop-Ups were 'Mental Health & Wellbeing', 'Crime & Safety' and 'Jobs & Opportunities'. These themes were the three areas identified by the national 'Make Your Mark' survey as being the most important to young people in Hull and have become the focus for the Hull Young Mayor's Team and the Hull Young People's Parliament. 14 Students representing Kelvin Hall School, Newland School for Girls and The Boulevard Academy had a really productive meeting discussing 'Jobs & Opportunities.' They made many astute observations including about careers in social media, training about jobs and ideas about how to get them. The students decided to write a series of questions which they would like to put to the rest of our students and agreed how they wanted this information to be gathered, namely through qualitative work undertaken by our many school councils. At the next TSC, to be held in the summer term, they will look at the replies from these questions and also look at 'Crime & Safety', which is also on the agenda for the UK Youth Parliament. Included in the TSC was the current Hull Young Mayor and one of Hull's MYPs. Many thanks to all members of the TSC for their wise and considered contributions this afternoon.
