Priory Primary C3 Eco Challenge Spring Meeting

Priory's Eco committee from their Junior Leadership Team had the second of their spring meetings. First, they reviewed their first big challenge C3 Eco Excellence Challenge, which focussed on collecting plastic bottle tops for the Schoolcycled initiative. They talked about the wonderful visit they'd had from Rob Aitken, who explained how the 'MyGroup' company compacts and reuses plastic. This challenge is going really well but the committee felt everyone needed a reminder so their bins may be filled even faster. Next, they discussed ideas for their second challenge, which is to cut back on the amount of paper they use. The children agreed that the first thing to do is to REDUCE the amount of paper, then to REUSE paper and finally to RECYCLE it. They put their ideas down on mind maps and came up with some great ideas. Using their Eco committee books, which were spare old books found in a cupboard, they jotted down notes to pass on to their classmates. Ideas including having a no-paper printing day; making the scrap paper drawers more prominent and trying to reduce how much new paper they use.
