In a tense and keenly-contested final, the Newland Queen Bees won our first Thrive Spelling Bee contest today at Hull University. The other teams were Priory BEEyond Words, Sidmouth Spells and the Newland Buzzing Belles.
Over ten hard rounds, including team challenges and individual hot spot rounds, the sixteen contestants battled it out. Watched by other students, parents and VIP guests and compered by David Peers, they showed how well they could cope with the pressure and with some really difficult words.
Our profound thanks go to Ian Wedgewood (from ViewSonic), who represented sponsors Gateway Heyworth, and our CEO, Jonathan Roe for presenting certificates and medals to everyone as well as the trophy to the Queen Bees. We are also grateful for the University, their porters and IT team for the use of the Basil Reckitt Lecture Theatre and also to Chris Constable, who masterminded the IT system this afternoon.
