Congratulations!!!
Fantastic work Mrs Yeung!
We are very pleased to tell you that you and your Eco-Committee at Priory Primary School have been successful in meeting the requirements for the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award.
We reviewed your application and noted the following:
It’s fantastic that you have such a large Eco-Committee in your school, it shows that your pupils clearly care about our planet and all plants, animals, and insects that live on it. Our team would recommend recruiting additional adult support for your Eco-Committee (if possible). This will help share the workload whilst embedding and expanding your environmental initiatives even further.
Thank you for sharing your meeting minutes and team photo with the Eco-Schools’ Team. They really helped to provide an insight into your Eco-Schools’ work, and the dynamics of your pupil-led Eco-Committee!
We took great pleasure in reading the insightful comments on your Environmental Review, they provided a wonderful insight into the discussions that took place whilst your Eco-Committee completed it. The thought-provoking questions submitted by your Eco-Committee for next year’s Environmental Review demonstrate intelligence and insight! We greatly appreciate their contribution and will certainly consider them when updating this resource for next year. Thank you! Your Action Plan is varied and substantial, containing impactful activities for each of your 3 chosen Eco-Schools’ topics. Your Action Plan is clearly aimed at involving as many people as possible, maximising the impacts of your Eco-Schools activities. It’s clear that whilst developing your plan consideration was given to how you could expand the reach of your Eco-Schools’ work to your whole school and local community – we love how many actions are targeted at parents as well as pupils.
Monitoring and Evaluation can be one of the more difficult steps of the Eco-Schools’ framework, your Eco-Committee predicted this and proactively developed ways to monitor their projects from an early stage. Your curriculum link examples are impressively extensive and varied, showing your school’s integration of environmental issues across a variety of subjects and year groups. Your trip to Withernsea beach sounds like a fantastic experience. Your school has truly gone above and beyond to make environmental education engaging for young people. The curriculum examples provided impressively expand on the projects in your Action Plan, providing pupils with a deeper understanding of the eco-activities they are delivering.
You have skilfully integrated environmental issues into your curriculum, enriching pupil’s learning in the process. We especially enjoyed seeing the fantastic examples of pupil’s work that were uploaded to your application. These examples really illustrate how learning with an environmental context can lead to fantastic outcomes. We particularly enjoyed reading about your whole school Butterfly City Project! Your application includes a wonderful example of a lesson plan covering environmental issues. This example clearly demonstrates that staff members in your school are willing to go above and beyond to include these important issues in pupil’s learning. Pass on a thank you to them from the Eco-Schools’ Team.
We praise your Eco-Committee for their wonderful efforts to keep their school updated about their Eco-Schools’ work. Delivering an assembly about their work will have taken a lot of courage, so especially well done for doing so! We really like how your Eco-Committee used their school newsletter to involve the broader school community in their environmental initiatives, sharing their expertise and encouraging schoolmates and their families to live more sustainably.
Your school’s commitment to safeguarding our planet extends beyond the efforts of your Eco-Committee. Not only did your Eco-Committee enhance the sustainability of their school, but they also distributed environmental challenges and activities to extend the impact of their Eco-School’s initiatives and promote sustainability within the school community.
Throughout your entire school, all students and staff have actively contributed to creating positive impacts, and this is a fantastic achievement. Your Eco-Schools noticeboard looks fantastic, with lots of data demonstrating the positive impacts you and your Eco-Committee have created. You’ve inspired enthusiastic young environmentalists who are excited about sustainability and empowered to make a difference, so it’s no surprise whole-school and wider community engagement has been a highlight of your journey.
Your Butterfly City Project sounds fantastic and was clearly the perfect way to engage people in the community, including your MP! Well done to all involved. Your biggest challenge was one familiar to many Eco-Coordinators and Eco-Committees, finding time for your Eco-Schools’ work. Despite this obstacle you successfully adapted, resulting in numerous positive impacts throughout the year. Your Eco-Code is positive, inclusive, and uplifting – a fitting tribute to your Eco-Schools journey. We thoroughly enjoyed reading it!
It has been an absolute joy assessing your application and learning about the impact you’ve had, not only on our planet but also on the young people you work with every day. We can’t emphasize this enough—take great pride in your achievements, and congratulations on your Eco-Schools’ Green Flag with Distinction 2024!
