This morning, students from schools across Hull were welcomed to the council chamber in the Guildhall for another meeting of the Hull Young People's Parliament. Expertly led by Amaya, the Hull Young Mayor and her amazing team, we heard how their project to create a Food Poverty App is nearing completion. Having the full backing of the Councillor Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council, they have secured £2,900 to create this App. As the Young Mayor explained, this will benefit a great many families.
Following the Council Chamber session, everyone adjourned to one of the other Guildhall rooms to vote for the new Young Mayor, who will take over from Amaya. Students, including representatives from two of our Thrive Schools, Kelvin Hall and Newland School for Girls, then worked together on the three themes that have come top of the 'Make Your Mark' survey for Hull. These are Mental Health & Wellbeing, Jobs & Opportunities and Crime & Safety.
Our profound thanks go to Ruth Cowlam, Lisa Wedgner, Lorraine Boocock and the other adults who organised this event but the real thanks go to our brilliant young people.
