Last night saw the official launch of the 'Co-creating a Climate Ready Hull' exhibition by Hull University at the Humber Street Gallery. This is a culmination of an enormous amount of work, involving scores of people and workshops. Led by Dr Steven Forrest but involving colleagues from across the university, this major cross-faculty project aims at providing policy-informing ideas and suggestions for Hull City Council. It has involved major players from hosts of different organisations such as the Environmental Agency but it has also been listening to the views of young people. We have been privileged to host workshops in our three secondary schools including students from some of our primary schools as well. Our students have also been involved in the adult workshops and impressed one and all with their candour, intellect and forward-thinking ideas. We use the Lundy Model of Child Participation in our trust and one thing we are really keen on emphasising is the need for 'authentic' and not 'tokenistic' voice & influence. This project has truly been authentic and we can't wait for the next stage of this work or other similar projects with the university.
In the meantime, we are truly indebted to Steven and all the other university staff who have, without fault, been truly brilliant with our students.
Work from the schools involved can be seen at the exhibition. These are: Kelvin Hall School, Newland School for Girls, The Boulevard Academy plus Chiltern and St. George's Primary Schools.
