We are thrilled to announce that after a rigorous selection process covering a number of weeks, we have appointed Jane Nolan to succeed Jonathan Roe as CEO from September 2025. We were particularly keen to appoint Jane because she has the skills and experience needed to take Thrive on the next step of our journey.
Jane has significant experience in high-level school leadership in schools and across schools. She is currently the Interim CEO of Horizons Academy Trust in Cambridgeshire and is looking forward to being the CEO of a trust back in her native city.
Jane’s CV is impressive. She was the first Wyke Student to gain a place at Cambridge University, where she graduated with a double first. She joined Ormiston Academies Trust as a Headteacher in Grimsby and in 2018 won the TES Headteacher of the Year award. She is the winner of two Pearson Silver Awards (Head Teacher of the Year and School of the Year ‘Making a Difference’). Jane was an Ofsted Inspector for five years, and rose through the ranks at Ormiston to become, firstly, National Director of Primary and SEND and, thereafter, Director of Inclusion across their 44 schools (secondary, primary and special).
Aside from her CV, Jane impressed us with her clear accord with Thrive’s values and principles and the way in which she understands the Hull socio-economic context. She is a champion of marginalised groups, including children with SEND, and has a track record of leading innovation for these groups.
Jonathan and Jane are now working together to develop a smooth handover process. They will be meeting regularly before the end of the school year and have booked in a number of meet sessions with key stakeholders.
In September Jane will be looking for opportunities to listen to you, seek an understanding of current challenges, and ways forward.
These are exciting and challenging times. With Jane at the helm, we are sure that Thrive will go from strength to strength.
